Vision

MicroMan4Health pioneers a data-centric micromanufacturing framework for added value in the healthcare and MedTech sector. By transforming process-centric manufacturing into knowledge-driven digital manufacturing, the project enables intelligent, traceable and clinically relevant production of next-generation healthcare devices.

Why 15 Dedicated PhD Projects?

Unlike conventional manufacturing, each micromanufacturing process is governed by distinct multiphysics principles and generates only limited amounts of training data. Consequently, digitalisation cannot rely on a single universal model or a one-size-fits-all AI approach.

MicroMan4Health therefore brings together 15 dedicated doctoral research projects, each addressing a specific micromanufacturing process within a coherent methodological umbrella. At micro- and sub-millimetre scales, manufacturing phenomena cannot be fully described by textbook equations and require dedicated research, advanced experimentation and data-centric modelling strategies.

Key Message: Successful digitalisation of micromanufacturing requires process-specific scientific understanding. The 15 doctoral projects are therefore a scientific necessity rather than a consortium choice.

What Will the Project Deliver?

  • Data-centric micromanufacturing frameworks towards MedTech/healthcare demonstrators.
  • Physics-informed AI and digital twins for micromanufacturing processes.
  • Predictive micromanufacturing and quality-control strategies.
  • Digitally traceable and clinically relevant micromanufacturing.
  • Micromanufacturing of Advanced MedTech devices and functional healthcare surfaces.
  • A new generation of highly skilled researchers and innovators.

Training the Next Generation

The project provides a comprehensive 12-week training programme for 15 doctoral candidates, combining micromanufacturing, digitalisation, artificial intelligence, MedTech innovation, entrepreneurship and transferable skills.

Following a balanced 50-30-20% research methodology, MicroMan4Health builds strong interdisciplinary capacity across micromanufacturing, digitalisation and MedTech while ensuring international, intersectoral and interdisciplinary training.

Application Areas

The project addresses a wide range of healthcare applications including cochlear and orthopaedic implants, neural sensing electrodes, dental prostheses and gears, drug-delivery micro-carriers, micro-injectors, bone screws, microfluidic systems and point-of-care diagnostic devices.

Supporting European Strategic Priorities

MicroMan4Health contributes directly to four EU Key Enabling Technologies: Advanced Manufacturing, Advanced Materials, Life Sciences and Artificial Intelligence. The project also supports major Horizon Europe priorities in Health and Digital, Industry & Space.
